The Brandon Light Horse and Pony Society (BLHPSI) will hold a three-day schooling show at the Keystone Centre in Brandon, Manitoba, from February 6 to February 8, 2026. The event offers local riders and trainers a chance to gain experience in a professional setting during the winter months and serves as an important preparation period for larger upcoming competitions, helping local participants get ready for the busier spring season.
Known as a schooling show, the event focuses on education and skill-building rather than high-stakes rankings. According to the Keystone Centre, the activities will take place in the indoor Westoba Agricultural Centre of Excellence and the Indoor Show Ring. This indoor space allows riders to continue their training despite the freezing temperatures common in the Westman region during February.
The Brandon Light Horse and Pony Society is a volunteer-run non-profit that has operated for more than 80 years and supports the local equestrian community. Many participants use this February date to get their horses comfortable with the arena before the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair in March. Because the facility offers stabling barns connected to the Westoba Agricultural Centre, horses can stay on-site and be sheltered from the extreme cold.
The event is expected to draw competitors from across the province and parts of Saskatchewan, which typically brings more customers to Brandon hotels and restaurants. Members of the community who are interested in horse sports are often able to watch the events from the arena stands at no cost, providing an easy way for families to see local athletes and their horses in action.
