The Western Manitoba Regional Library (WMRL) is hosting a free drop-in craft night called Stitching in the Stacks at its downtown Brandon branch on January 28, 2026.

Residents can bring their own knitting, crochet, or embroidery projects to the library at 710 Rosser Avenue, Unit 1 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The session is designed to give people a warm, social place to gather during the cold months; the library typically closes at 6:00 PM on weekdays, and these programming nights extend the building’s use into the evening.

The Brandon Downtown BIZ is partnering on the event to help bring more foot traffic to local businesses and restaurants in the evening. Organizers say the initiative is part of an effort to move away from the idea of the library as just a quiet study space and instead make it a lively spot for the community to connect.

This shift is part of a broader effort by the City of Brandon to turn the downtown area into a cultural hub for residents (see City of Brandon public notices on the 710 Rosser Avenue redevelopment). The Manitoba Library Association noted in its ‘Library Spotlight’ (May 2024) that nights like these help people learn new skills and meet others with similar hobbies without having to pay for a private class.
