The Western Manitoba Regional Library (WMRL) launched a bi‑weekly Creative Writing series at its downtown Brandon branch on January 8, 2026. The sessions meet every other Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the downtown branch (710 Rosser Ave, Unit 1) to give local writers a regular place to practice their skills and get feedback from others in the community.

Meetings alternate between creative writing time and sharing work for peer feedback. The program is free; the library asks interested participants to sign up by phone (204‑727‑6648), email (programs@wmrl.ca) or in person to confirm attendance, though the sessions are intended to be low‑barrier.

Local organizers and promoters, including the Brandon Downtown BIZ, say the sessions are part of efforts to increase foot traffic in the city centre during non‑traditional hours — a strategy intended to benefit nearby shops and restaurants by encouraging residents to visit businesses before or after library events.

Upcoming meetings in the bi‑weekly series include February 5 and February 19, 2026. The initiative aligns with a growing local literary scene that includes similar groups at Brandon University and other community writing programs.
