The Brandon Police Service is visiting local universities this week to find new officers and staff as the department looks to fill openings in Brandon, Manitoba. Officers are meeting with students and jobseekers at the University of Manitoba career fair on January 27–28, 2026, and at Brandon University on January 30, 2026.

The police department is looking for people for various roles, including full‑time officers, civilian staff, and a cadet program that allows students to begin their law‑enforcement training while they finish their degrees. This recruitment push follows a period where many veteran officers retired, leaving several spots open on the local force.

Funding for these new positions is supported by the Government of Manitoba, which provided money to municipal police services to help hire more staff and improve community safety. The police service is specifically looking for candidates with university backgrounds who have strong problem‑solving and communication skills.

Those interested in a career in policing can visit the booths to learn about the hiring process, which includes a written exam and the POPAT (Police Officer’s Physical Abilities Test). Applicants can also find information and start their applications through the police service’s online recruitment portal (currently at https://joinbps.ca/).
