The City of Brandon, Manitoba, is working to fix a banking error that caused duplicate property tax withdrawals for 1,274 properties on February 17, 2026. This mistake affected people signed up for the Tax Installment Plan, which automatically takes monthly payments on the 15th of each month.
The duplicate withdrawals ranged from $13 to $29,200 depending on the property. City spokesperson Merrilea Metcalf said the error happened across multiple types of properties.
Acting Mayor Glen Parker stated that the city is working with its bank to reverse the extra charges. The bank is expected to refund the duplicate amounts and cover any related costs, such as bank fees or charges for not having enough money in an account.
The City of Brandon Finance Department recommends that residents check their bank statements to make sure their payments are correct. Affected property owners can contact the city at 204-729-2228 or by email at taxes@brandon.ca if they notice any issues.
