Brantford, Ontario city council members agreed on February 25, 2026, to accept nearly $500,000 in federal funding to expand programs that help people keep their homes. The money will support a one-year project designed to reduce local homelessness by 4 per cent by early 2027.
The City of Brantford will use the $499,943 to hire three temporary staff members, including two housing stability workers and a person to work directly with landlords. These employees will focus on helping tenants at 12 specific non-profit and co-operative housing sites stay in their homes.
The program is set to begin on April 1, 2026, and will run until March 31, 2027. Local leaders hope the project will prevent at least 48 people from losing their housing and becoming homeless over the next year.
A portion of the money will also be used to provide support services led by Indigenous organizations to ensure tenants receive care that respects their culture and history. This initiative is being run as a partnership with the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness.
