The Brantford Police Service has reopened the eastbound lanes of Colborne Street and Kiwanis Way in Brantford, Ontario, after heavy snow blocked the route overnight. City crews used heavy-duty plows and salt spreaders to clear the corridor on Monday morning, January 26, 2026. The Colborne/Kiwanis corridor is a primary arterial route connecting Brantford’s east end to Cainsville.

Although the lanes are open, the Brantford Police Service warns driving remains hazardous because of black ice under fresh snow and blowing snow. Police are asking drivers to keep their headlights on at all times to improve visibility in poor conditions.

Environment Canada’s forecast for Brantford shows flurries this afternoon with strong northwest winds and gusts up to about 40 km/h; that combination could reduce visibility and produce localized whiteout conditions. Drivers should be prepared for deteriorating conditions later today and travel only if necessary.

The City of Brantford is asking residents to stay off the roads if travel is not essential so snowplow crews can clear priority routes ahead of the expected deterioration this afternoon.

This stretch of road near the Grand River is prone to heavy drifting because of open fields nearby. Past reporting in the Brantford Expositor has noted the corridor is often among the first to be closed during winter storms when winds blow snow across the roadway.
