The City of Brantford, Ontario, is asking residents to move their vehicles off the street on January 26, 2026, as the community prepares for a forecasted 10–15 centimetres of snow. City Operational Services have begun pre-treating Red Routes (arterial roads) to prevent ice bonding and have placed plowing and salting crews on high alert.

According to the city’s Plowing and Salting guidance, crews will focus on the busiest streets first (Red and Blue routes) before moving into residential neighbourhoods. Residents are also asked to move boulevard obstructions — for example, basketball and hockey nets and waste bins — away from the edge of the road or the boulevard to allow plows to work safely.

Clearing these items helps plow drivers clean the full width of the street safely without damaging private property or City equipment. Homeowners are generally required by City bylaw to clear snow from the sidewalks in front of their properties within 24 hours after a storm ends.

For those who cannot clear the heavy ridges of snow left at the bottom of driveways, the City offers a Snow Windrow Removal Program for seniors and residents with disabilities. Residents are encouraged to wait until a snow-free 24-hour period has passed after the storm before calling the City to report missed streets or other issues — Operational Services will resume individual service requests in priority order once that period has transpired.

City officials say that parking in driveways instead of on the road is one of the most helpful things residents can do to speed up the cleanup.
