The City of Brantford will hold a council meeting on February 24, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. to discuss new funding for small businesses and several multi-million dollar construction projects. This meeting, held at City Hall, provides an opportunity for officials to vote on programs designed to improve safety and local infrastructure in key areas of the city.
One major item on the agenda is a new Vandalism Prevention Grant Pilot Program. This initiative would provide financial support to small businesses with fewer than 100 employees, as well as non-profits and churches, to help repair or prevent property damage. The program specifically targets properties located within the Downtown and Greyfields Community Improvement Plan areas.
The council is also planning to spend $8.3 million to rehabilitate the 102-year-old Lorne Bridge. Major repairs are scheduled to begin this spring to address structural issues with the bridge. Other significant infrastructure projects include a $36 million plan to rebuild the Earl Avenue Operations Yard and a special financing plan for a new housing project at 687 Colborne Street, which is being set aside for affordable housing.
Finally, council members will vote on the Elect Respect Pledge. This is a commitment for city leaders to treat others with respect in public and online to stop the abuse of elected officials and encourage polite debate. In addition to these votes, the City will officially proclaim March 8, 2026, as International Women’s Day, with a flag-raising ceremony scheduled for March 6.
