Environment Canada has upgraded its forecast for Bridgewater and Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, calling for 25 to 35 centimetres of snow in a Yellow Warning issued Jan. 26, 2026.

The system is expected to arrive in two waves: the heaviest snow is forecast overnight into Monday morning, with a secondary intensification possible Monday night. Strong gusts — up to about 70 kilometres per hour along the Atlantic coast — are expected and Environment Canada warns those winds combined with heavy snow will produce blowing snow and poor visibility over exposed areas.

Nova Scotia Power has positioned crews and activated its emergency operations, but very high winds and the weight of snow can hamper safe restoration work (bucket-truck operations are often suspended in very high winds), potentially delaying repairs. Residents are being urged to complete emergency preparations now and to stay off the roads where possible so Town of Bridgewater plows can clear priority routes.

Travel is expected to be difficult; drivers should check Nova Scotia 511 for the latest road conditions before leaving. The heavy snow could lead to school and office closures: the South Shore Regional Centre for Education has indicated a Monday closure is highly probable, with decisions for Tuesday still under evaluation. Residents should monitor official Environment Canada, Nova Scotia Power and municipal updates for confirmed closures and service advisories.
