Residents and businesses in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, are facing uncertainty after the town’s official website removed new property tax and sewer figures for the 2026–2027 fiscal year. By Feb. 8, 2026, the town finance pages returned to showing rates from the previous 2025–2026 budget instead of the updated figures that were briefly visible earlier in the month.

The change on the Town of Bridgewater website also affected late payment penalties. An interest rate of 1.25% per month was briefly displayed for overdue taxes before it was switched back to the previous rate of 1% per month.

According to Nova Scotia Open Data and the town’s finance pages, Bridgewater’s residential property tax rate has been $1.85 per $100 of assessment for the past two fiscal years (2024–25 and 2025–26).

Bridgewater traditionally finalizes its budget in late March or early April (for example, March 31, 2025 and April 8, 2024). The early appearance and sudden removal of the 2026–2027 figures leave it unclear which rates will apply to upcoming tax bills.

The reversion has prompted concern among homeowners and real-estate professionals who rely on these figures to calculate costs during home sales and mortgage adjustments. Without a confirmed update from the town office, residents may not know exactly how much they owe or when they must pay to avoid extra interest charges.

As of Feb. 9, 2026, the Town of Bridgewater had not issued an official statement explaining the temporary posting and subsequent reversion; reporters should seek comment from the Town’s Finance Department and Mayor David Mitchell before publication.
