Residents in Bridgewater and Lunenburg County are being warned of slippery travel conditions today, Friday, April 3, 2026, as Environment Canada has issued a yellow warning for freezing rain. The alert, which took effect at 8:14 a.m., indicates a period of moderate impact expected to last for four to eight hours this morning.
The weather system is expected to bring a mix of ice pellets and freezing rain throughout the morning, with total rainfall amounts reaching 10 millimetres. Southeast winds are forecast at 20 kilometres per hour, with gusts up to 40 kilometres per hour. While temperatures are hovering near 0°C, a wind chill of minus 7°C is expected throughout the morning hours. The conditions are forecast to transition to plain rain by mid-afternoon, with some drizzle lingering into the evening.
Local officials are reminding residents that while ground temperatures may keep some roadways mainly wet, sidewalks and roads will likely become icy and slippery. These icy surfaces can be difficult to detect, making travel hazardous for both drivers and pedestrians. The Town of Bridgewater, which is responsible for maintaining more than 100 kilometres of local streets and sidewalks, maintains an active storm centre to provide residents with up-to-date information and resources.
In the event of utility disruptions, residents can monitor the status of the electrical grid through the Nova Scotia Power outage map. The utility provides 24-hour support for reporting downed lines or power failures at 1-877-428-6004. Historically, winter storms in the South Shore region have posed challenges for electricity infrastructure, and residents are encouraged to stay prepared for potential service interruptions.
