The City of Brockville is encouraging residents to prepare for the upcoming municipal election on Monday, October 26, 2026. As the community gears up to select new leadership, officials are reminding voters to verify their registration status and prepare for upcoming changes in the voting process.

A significant change for this election cycle is that the municipal voter list is now managed by Elections Ontario rather than city staff. Residents are encouraged to visit the provincial website to check, update, or add their information to ensure they are ready to cast a ballot. To be eligible to vote, a person must be a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old, and either live in Brockville, own or rent property in the city, or be the spouse of someone who meets those criteria.

The 2026 vote carries particular weight as Brockville will elect a new mayor. Current Mayor Matt Wren announced on March 17, 2026, that he will not seek re-election, marking an end to his current term. Additionally, this will be the first municipal election in the city held since the introduction of provincial legislation granting certain municipalities, including Brockville, increased executive authority known as strong mayor powers.

For those looking to participate as candidates, the nomination period opens on May 1 and closes on August 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. Anyone interested in running for office must secure at least 25 endorsements to qualify.

When it comes time to vote, the city will continue to offer electronic voting by internet and telephone. In-person voting kiosks will also be available for residents who prefer to cast their ballots that way. The City of Brockville and the municipal government are emphasizing that now is the time to ensure all voter information is accurate well before election day.
