A weather advisory for freezing drizzle is creating slippery conditions for people in Brockville, Ontario, as they head back to work and school on Tuesday morning. Environment Canada issued the alert at 4:11 a.m. on February 17, 2026, warning that thin layers of ice could form quickly on roads, sidewalks, and parking lots.

The icy weather arrives on the first day of school and business following the Family Day holiday. While the Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario reported no major bus cancellations early this morning, drivers are encouraged to watch for patchy ice that can be hard to see on the pavement.

City workers in Brockville are currently using a mixture of sand and salt to treat local streets due to a province-wide shortage of road salt. This sand-salt mix helps with traction but may not melt ice as quickly as pure salt, making side streets and walkways particularly hazardous during the morning commute.

The Upper Canada District School Board calendar shows students are returning to class today, and police are reminding everyone that this area is prone to rapid icing. Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police have noted that conditions along the Highway 401 corridor can change very quickly because of moisture coming off the lake.
