Residents in Brockville, Ontario, may find it harder to get mental health care throughout March and April 2026 due to a shortage of doctors in the psychiatry department at Brockville General Hospital.

The lack of specialists could make it more difficult for people to be admitted for care or meet with a doctor for mental health support. Dr. Alan Drummond, an emergency doctor who follows local healthcare issues, says the shortage is putting a lot of pressure on the remaining staff and could impact patient care.

This is the second time this year that the hospital has dealt with significant staffing gaps. In January 2026, the hospital had to temporarily close its departments for pregnancy and childbirth because there were not enough staff members available to keep those services open safely.

The hospital is now working with a recruitment company called Health Workforce Innovations Inc. to find more doctors to fill these roles. For now, the community is waiting for updates to see if there will be further service delays at the facility.
