The Ontario government officially started the process to find a builder for the new Brockville Correctional Complex on March 16, 2026, to replace the city’s 184-year-old jail in Brockville, Ontario.

The project will add a total of 295 beds to the provincial system, featuring 270 beds for men in a new facility and 25 beds for women at the expanded St. Lawrence Valley Correctional and Treatment Centre. Provincial leaders say this increase is necessary to modernize aging infrastructure and replace facilities that have been in use since the mid-1800s.

Premier Doug Ford visited the community to announce the update alongside Brockville Mayor Matt Wren and Elizabethtown-Kitley Mayor Brant Burrow. The new complex will be built in the Township of Elizabethtown-Kitley on a site that borders the city, where site preparation work is already underway.

The provincial government is working with Infrastructure Ontario to manage the design and construction of the facility. The new buildings are being designed to meet modern environmental standards to ensure they are energy efficient and have a smaller impact on the local environment.

This local expansion is part of a larger provincial goal to add 1,436 new beds across Ontario by the year 2032. Government officials say the new complex will provide a more secure and modern environment for both staff and the people housed at the facility.
