All Halton District School Board (HDSB) schools in Burlington, Ontario, are closed today, Monday, January 26, 2026, after a winter storm made road conditions hazardous for students and staff. The HDSB announced the system‑wide closure early this morning after Halton Student Transportation Services (HSTS) advised the board that bus transportation was not viable and transportation was cancelled.
The closure disrupted the first day of the secondary final‑evaluation period. Under HDSB inclement‑weather procedures, secondary exams cancelled because of a closure are rescheduled; individual schools set the new dates. Many HDSB secondary schools moved exams originally scheduled for Monday, Jan. 26, to Wednesday, Jan. 28, while some schools applied a one‑day shift.
At Dr. Frank J. Hayden Secondary School, exams planned for Monday have been rescheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 28, starting at 9:00 a.m., in regularly scheduled classrooms. Garth Webb Secondary School likewise posted that Monday’s exams are rescheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 9:00 a.m. Elsie MacGill Secondary School announced that final evaluations originally set for Monday will be completed on Tuesday, Jan. 27, with Tuesday’s exams moving to Wednesday, Jan. 28.
Families are being asked to monitor school email and the HDSB website for updated room assignments and start times. The board says individual schools will share exam‑specific details directly with families and that special‑education supports and accommodations will be re‑coordinated to match the rescheduled exam dates so students who require them can complete their evaluations.
