Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a special weather statement for Burlington, Ontario, as a storm bringing freezing rain and ice is expected to arrive on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. The weather system is forecast to cause slippery conditions on roads and sidewalks throughout the day and into the evening.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, the region could see several hours of freezing rain or ice pellets starting Wednesday morning. Officials expect between 5 and 10 millimetres of ice to build up on surfaces, along with about 5 centimetres of snow.

The City of Burlington keeps maintenance crews on duty 24 hours a day to clear snow and ice from local streets. Residents should be aware that the city might close facilities like community centres or City Hall if travel becomes too dangerous for the public.

Burlington Hydro is prepared for potential power outages caused by ice weighing down tree branches and power lines. If the power goes out, the utility company plans to restore electricity to hospitals and emergency services before moving to other areas.

Families with children should check for school bus cancellations or school closures early Wednesday morning. Halton Student Transportation Services typically shares these decisions by 6:30 AM to help parents plan for the day.
