On February 25, 2026, the Halton Regional Police Service arrested a veteran officer living in Burlington, Ontario, in connection with a child exploitation investigation. David Hamilton, a 43-year-old Burlington resident and a 19-year member of the Hamilton Police Service, faces charges for allegedly possessing and sharing illegal materials involving minors.

The investigation relates to activities that reportedly took place in Burlington between January 3 and January 4, 2026. Following the arrest, the Hamilton Police Service suspended the officer from his position without pay while the legal process continues.

Hamilton was previously known in the community for his work with youth, including serving as a mentor for teenagers at Notre Dame House. He also helped organize activities for at-risk youth through the ProAction Cops and Kids charity.

The officer remains in custody while waiting for a bail hearing in Milton. This suspension without pay was made possible by new provincial rules that allow police services to stop pay for officers facing serious criminal charges.
