Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Burlington, Ontario, warning residents to prepare for heavy rainfall this weekend.
The weather agency expects a Colorado low to move through the area on Saturday, April 4, 2026, bringing between 25 and 50 millimetres of rain. The heaviest precipitation is expected to fall during the evening and overnight hours, and there is a possibility of thunderstorms that could lead to higher rainfall totals in some locations.
While Conservation Halton reports that current river and stream levels remain at a normal status as of April 3, 2026, officials are monitoring the situation. Warmer spring temperatures combined with the incoming rain are expected to increase flow in local waterways.
Burlington residents are often cautious regarding heavy rain due to the city’s history with flooding. According to insurance data, the city is ranked as the 17th most flood-prone city in Ontario. Significant past events, such as the 2014 storm that flooded over 3,000 homes and a 2024 event that saw homes on Cavendish Drive submerged, have led the City of Burlington to invest approximately $100 million in water system repairs and flood prevention infrastructure since 2014.
Residents are advised to keep a close eye on local weather alerts as the weekend progresses. Information regarding potential flooding and safety can be found at Ontario.ca/floods.
