The Waterloo Regional Police Service has arrested six men and laid 61 charges following an investigation into the theft of commercial trucks and their cargo. Members of the police force’s specialized unit, known as the Break, Enter, Auto Theft, and Robbery (BEAR) unit, executed search warrants in Kitchener and Hamilton on March 23, 2026, as part of an ongoing crackdown on organized vehicle theft.

The six men arrested are from Brampton, Mississauga, and Paris. They face a wide range of charges including motor vehicle theft tied to organized crime, possession of stolen property worth more than $5,000, extortion, and various drug-related offences. According to police, investigators seized a stolen tractor-trailer, specialized devices used to break into and start commercial vehicles, GPS jammers, and tracking devices. Officers also discovered suspected heroin and methamphetamine during the raids.

This police operation highlights a growing trend of cargo theft across the country. According to the Equité Association, the number of trailer thefts in Canada nearly doubled in 2025. Sid Kingma, the director of investigative services for the organization, noted that trailer and cargo thefts saw the most significant increase, rising from approximately 570 incidents in 2024 to nearly 970 across the country in 2025.

All six accused individuals were held for bail hearings following the arrests. The investigation remains active, and police are continuing to look into the scope of the criminal activity. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the local police or provide an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers of Waterloo Region.
