The Nunavut Children’s Oral Health Program is wrapping up its current clinic in Cambridge Bay on Friday, January 30, 2026. Local health staff are urging parents and guardians to book any remaining appointments for their children before the visiting dental team concludes services that day.

The clinic is located at the Kitikmeot Regional Health Centre and is focused on children aged 0–12 (the territorial program generally serves grade 7 and under, and some services can extend to teens under 18). Staff are offering routine checkups, cleanings, fluoride varnish applications, and sealants to help prevent cavities.

According to the Nunavut Department of Health, these visits are a key part of reducing the territory’s high rates of tooth decay. Health officials say that catching dental problems early in-community can prevent the need for children to travel to regional or southern centres — such as Yellowknife or Edmonton — for major surgery under general anesthetic.

The program works alongside federal initiatives such as the Canadian Dental Care Plan to improve access to preventive care. Reporting and government analyses, including a 2023–2024 review cited in coverage by Nunatsiaq News, indicate that nearly one in three Nunavut children undergo dental surgery under general anesthetic before the age of five.

Parents should call the Kitikmeot Regional Health Centre dental coordinator to secure an appointment. The clinic’s scheduled hours for this session are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
