The Nunavut Impact Review Board (NIRB), based in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, has launched a territory-wide recruitment campaign to fill a range of roles at its Cambridge Bay office. The hiring call includes positions such as summer students, interpreter/translator roles, and technical specialists to help the board manage an increasing workload of impact assessments.

There are many different types of work available, including Screening Officer and Manager, Human Resources positions. The full list of openings is available on the NIRB Careers Portal; the bulletin posted in January 2026 lists multiple job postings with various closing dates, some of which extend through March 2026.

The board says this recruitment drive is part of its effort to meet the goals of Article 23 of the Nunavut Agreement, which seeks representative Inuit participation in public institutions. The NIRBgives priority consideration to qualified Nunavut Inuit (enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement) first, and Nunavut residents second; Cambridge Bay residents are among the local talent pool but are not separately prioritized above other Nunavut residents.

According to the NIRB recruitment materials, the surge in hiring responds to a rise in the complexity and number of project reviews across Nunavut including projects such as new roads and mines. By expanding local hiring and building career pathways from student and entry-level roles to technical and management positions, the NIRB says it aims to improve its capacity to assess and monitor how proposed developments affect the environment and community well-being.
