All schools and student transportation across Waterloo Region — including Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo — are closed today, Monday, January 26, 2026, because of hazardous winter weather. The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) and the Waterloo Catholic District School Board (WCDSB) announced the closures, citing unsafe road conditions and severe weather forecasts.

Student Transportation Services of Waterloo Region (STSWR) says all school buses, taxis and special education routes are cancelled. The shutdown also includes board offices (WCDSB), WRDSB’s Education Centre, evening rental permits, and all before- and after-school/Extended Day childcare programs.

The closure falls during the January secondary-school examination period. Both boards and STSWR confirmed that all secondary exams scheduled for Monday, Jan. 26, will be postponed to the next school day; subsequent exams will be pushed forward accordingly.

School officials said the decision was made after STSWR assessments and review of current and forecasted weather conditions in consultation with local crews responsible for road safety. STSWR specifically cited significant icing on side streets in the Cambridge area as a factor making it unsafe for buses to travel their usual routes. Environment Canada had also issued warnings of hazardous winter conditions for the region.
