The Waterloo Catholic District School Board issued a public statement following the February 13, 2026, arrest of a vice-principal who lives in Cambridge, Ontario. Board officials reached out to the community to clarify that the criminal charges do not involve any students currently enrolled in the local school system.
Michel Pleau, a 50-year-old resident of Cambridge, was working as the vice-principal at St. Anne Catholic Elementary School in Kitchener at the time of his arrest. According to the Waterloo Regional Police Service, he faces several charges including child luring and the possession, making, and distribution of Child Sexual Assault and Exploitation Material (CSAEM).
The arrest was the result of a joint investigation between the local cybercrime unit and other police forces, including the Greater Sudbury Police Service and the Toronto Police Service. The school board is pledging full cooperation with law enforcement as the matter moves through the legal system.
While the school where the accused worked is located in Kitchener, the news has caused significant concern in the Cambridge community where Pleau resides. The board has moved to offer support to families and staff across the district as they manage the impact of the announcement.
The school board emphasized that student safety is its primary concern and that they are taking steps to manage the situation. Officials are focused on maintaining a safe environment while the legal proceedings against the former administrator continue.
