High school seniors in Cambridge, Ontario, have an important internal deadline coming up to apply for thousands of dollars in post‑secondary funding. Grade 12 students at St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School must submit their names to the guidance office by February 16, 2026, to be considered for the 2026 KW Legacy Scholarships.
Each general Legacy award is worth $5,000 and is intended for students who show leadership and community service. To qualify, students must have a minimum cumulative average of 70% (top six courses), plan to attend a post‑secondary institution approved by the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP), and demonstrate financial need by providing proof of OSAP eligibility (KW Legacy requires a screen‑capture from the OSAP Aid Estimator).
Students who want to apply must first be vetted or nominated by the school before they can access the KW Legacy application portal. Application codes are sent to schools (Jan. 15, 2026) and will be distributed by the guidance office to nominated students. The school’s Guidance Counsellor, Nick Betik, is managing the nomination process and will help students through the internal steps.
The awards are administered by KW Legacy, a local charity that has raised over $1 million for Waterloo Region students since its founding. Local reporting has also noted Cambridge students have recently been among recipients — a 2024 CambridgeToday report named six Cambridge students who received KW Legacy awards.
St. Benedict’s guidance staff advise applicants to focus on the impact of their volunteer work rather than only listing hours. Interested seniors should visit the guidance office as soon as possible to make sure they meet the school’s Feb. 16 internal deadline and to confirm nomination procedures.
