The City of Cambridge and the Region of Waterloo plan to repave a section of Waterloo Street North in Hespeler from February 5 to 7, 2026. This work will take place on the stretch between Bishop Street North and Temperance Street, which serves as a primary route through the historic downtown Hespeler area in Cambridge, Ontario.
During the three-day project, all on-street parking will be removed and driving lanes will be made narrower. This is expected to cause short delays and require detours for residents and delivery trucks visiting local shops in the Hespeler Village BIA.
The project is currently listed in the Region of Waterloo’s “Future Road Closures” dataset, accessible via the City of Cambridge GeoHub. While paving usually happens in warmer weather, this work may be a temporary fix for winter road damage or a placeholder date that could be updated as the 2026 construction season gets closer.
These repairs are part of a wider effort to keep local roads and infrastructure in good condition, as mentioned in the City of Cambridge 2026 Budget Announcement. Residents can find background on longer-term reconstruction planning for Waterloo Street on the EngageWR Waterloo Street Reconstruction site, though that consultation covers broader reconstruction works and may not reference this brief winter repaving.
