Camrose, AB — The Battle River School Division Board of Trustees approved a new three-year Education Plan for 2025–28 in 2025, incorporating feedback from almost 3,500 stakeholders (students, families and staff) to guide priorities across 19 schools in Camrose and surrounding counties.
The plan centers on three priorities: Learning Success for All; Enhance High Quality Learning and Working Environments; and Well-Being. It sets a target for every student to demonstrate one year’s growth in their learning and calls for stronger mental health supports and enhanced learning environments and resources.
Implementation begins with the 2025–26 school year and aligns with the approved 2025–26 operating budget. Incoming Superintendent Natasha Wilm (effective Aug. 1, 2025) will oversee the plan; Assistant Superintendent Stephen Hoyland — who was heavily involved in the stakeholder engagement process — played a key role in gathering and interpreting stakeholder feedback.
The plan also ties into BRSD’s 2025 Capital Plan (approved March 20, 2025) for Camrose, which includes a new Kindergarten–Grade 9 Camrose school to replace École Charlie Killam School and École Sifton School to address aging infrastructure and enrollment pressures.
Board Chair Patrick McFeely said the increased community input marks a shift to a more transparent planning process that helps the division meet Alberta Education’s accountability requirements. “Our budget planning is driven by our core priorities: Learning Success for All, Enhance High Quality Learning and Working Environments, and Well-Being,” he said.
