Residents in Camrose, Alberta, now have more options for swimming following a recent decision by the City of Camrose council to approve a new agreement with the City of Wetaskiwin. This deal allows Camrose residents to use their local city recreation passes at the aquatic facilities in the neighbouring community.
The agreement is expected to provide extra swimming space for families and individuals, a benefit that is particularly timely as the City of Camrose continues a major modernization of its own aquatic centre. The current construction project includes plans for a new eight-lane, 25-metre competition pool, a leisure pool, and a lazy river.
While the new arrangement expands regional access, residents planning to visit the Manluk Centre: Wetaskiwin Regional Aquatics & Fitness should note that the facility is currently undergoing its annual maintenance. The pool is closed to the public from April 3 to May 3, 2026, with regular operations expected to resume on May 4.
This initiative builds upon existing local efforts to share recreation resources. The City of Camrose already maintains a long-standing partnership with Camrose County, which allows county residents to use city facilities such as the arena and sports fields at the same rates as city residents. These agreements are part of a broader push for cooperation between municipalities in the province, encouraged under the Municipal Government Act.
