Low-income transit support in Camrose has been extended for another year following successful advocacy efforts by local leaders. The Ministry of Assisted Living and Social Services confirmed that provincial funding for the program will continue through March 2027.
The city had actively lobbied the provincial government to maintain this support for residents. According to Camrose City Council, a new grant agreement is currently being prepared to finalize the extension for the period of April 2026 to March 2027.
This provincial commitment builds on a previous investment from 2023, when the government expanded the program to include Camrose along with five other communities. That initiative was designed to help cover the costs of implementing low-income transit options and provide funding for municipal administration.
In addition to these provincial efforts, residents continue to benefit from local transit services. The Camrose Community Bus, which is operated by the Rose City Handi-Van Society, offers a fixed-route service with accessible ramps for strollers, walkers, and wheelchairs. The service operates Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and has been available to the public for free since July 2, 2024.
