The tournament uses a round‑robin format followed by showcase and playoff rounds; the opening matchup (Team SJHL vs. Midland University) is scheduled for Dec. 28 at noon.
Organizers and local tourism stakeholders say recent roster and schedule announcements have already started to affect hotel availability and arena scheduling in Camrose. Local hotels such as the Camrose Resort Casino and the Norsemen Inn are identified as primary hospitality partners for the event, and city arena bookings are being coordinated to accommodate the tournament.
The original Viking Cup ran from 1980 to 2006 and became a prominent scouting showcase; over 400 tournament alumni have been selected in NHL drafts. The current revival — led by the Augustana Vikings Hockey Alumni Association and outlined on the event website — aims to restore Camrose’s reputation as a holiday hockey destination.
