The City of Camrose has launched an ongoing recruitment drive for paid on-call firefighters, marking the job posting “open until filled” on its careers page. The fire department says it needs to expand its pool of on‑call personnel to keep pace with rising emergency call volumes.

Paid on‑call firefighters receive hourly pay for training and emergency responses and work alongside four full‑time officers based at the fire hall at 201 Mount Pleasant Drive. Applicants can submit resumes to hr@camrose.ca. The application process typically includes a physical fitness assessment, medical screening and a background check (Vulnerable Sector Search).

Fire Chief Eric Graham told council on April 7, 2025, that the department has seen a “consistent upward trend” in alarms and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) assists over the past three years (Council Meeting Highlights, April 7, 2025). City officials say the hybrid model of full‑time and paid on‑call staff provides a balance of cost and readiness as Camrose continues to grow.

The continuous hiring push reflects recommendations in the city’s 2020 Fire Master Plan and aims to offset retirements and turnover. With more calls each year, officials say a larger on‑call roster will help maintain response capacity and response times without converting to an all‑full‑time force.
