The City of Camrose, Alberta, is looking into starting a curbside recycling pickup service for local homes, with a public survey set to launch in April 2026. If the plan moves forward, residents could see their recyclables collected right from their doorsteps starting in October 2026.
The upcoming survey will ask people for their thoughts on how often the pickup should happen and what kind of containers they prefer, such as bags or carts. Camrose City Council will use this feedback to help decide the final schedule and how the program will work for the community’s roughly 9,000 households.
This new service will not cost residents any extra money, as the monthly recycling fee is expected to stay at $3.00 per home. The change is part of a province-wide program from the Government of Alberta that shifts the cost of recycling from taxpayers to the companies that produce packaging and paper.
While most items will be picked up at the curb, the local recycle depot run by the Centra Cam Vocational Training Association is expected to stay open. It will continue to take items that cannot be put in curbside bins, like glass and styrofoam. The city currently works with Circular Materials to manage these recycling services.
