Local charities, small businesses, and community centres in Canmore, Alberta, are being encouraged to apply for several grants to help make their buildings easier to use for people with disabilities. The deadline for the federal Enabling Accessibility Fund is March 12, 2026. This program provides money for projects like installing ramps, upgrading washrooms, and improving entrances to remove physical barriers in workplaces and public spaces.

Another funding opportunity is available through the Rick Hansen Barrier Buster Fund, which is offering grants of up to $40,000 for local projects. The deadline for this fund is March 15, 2026, at 1:00 pm MST (3:00 pm EDT). These grants are intended to help organizations complete smaller accessibility improvements that make community programs and jobs more inclusive for everyone.

To support local groups with these applications, Bow Valley Non-Profits is hosting a grant meeting at the Canmore Public Library on March 12, 2026. This session runs from 10:15 am to 12:15 pm and serves as a resource for the more than 225 community organizations in the region. Other grants with upcoming deadlines include the Home Depot Youth Opportunity Grant on March 07, 2026, and the Canadian Future-Ready Education Grant on March 12, 2026.

These grant opportunities arrive as the Town of Canmore works on its own plans to improve accessibility. The current municipal budget includes funding for studies to look at how to make local facilities and public washrooms easier for all residents to use. By applying for these external grants, local organizations can help the community meet these goals by modernizing their own spaces.
