The Canmore and Area Mountain Bike Association is marking its 10th anniversary in 2026, celebrating a decade of advocacy and trail development in the Bow Valley.
Founded in 2016 by local riders, the organization has grown from a small volunteer group into a professional team with a dedicated summer trail crew and office staff. To celebrate this milestone, the association will hold its annual general meeting on June 24, 2026, at the Bill Warren Training Centre, located at the Canmore Nordic Centre.
The association has played a key role in shaping local recreation, including the maintenance and creation of trails such as Top Gun, Cloudline, the Benchlands Drop Zone, and the Bow Valley Kids connector. As the organization enters its second decade, it remains focused on expanding access, including plans for a 3.5-kilometre adaptive trail in southeastern Canmore designed to meet Kootenay Adaptive trail standards.
Recent policy changes have also placed the group at the forefront of local planning. Following the release of the Canmore Area Trails Master Plan by Alberta Forestry and Parks, the organization is working to align riders and trail users under a shared vision for future recreation. Executive Director Laura Quelch and President Chad Holowatuk continue to lead these initiatives, building on a history of successful partnerships and provincial support.
Community members interested in supporting these efforts can participate in the annual Rad Ride Raffle, which funds ongoing trail-building projects. The 2026 raffle features a Transition Smuggler mountain bike valued at $6,999, with the winner to be announced during the June annual general meeting.
