The Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary is hosting a special Tug of War! event on March 7, 2026, giving visitors a chance to see how strong the animals really are. The sanctuary, located just outside of Cochrane and a short drive from Canmore, Alberta, is inviting families to watch and participate in this hands-on activity starting at 1:00 PM.
This event is part of a monthly program called Wild Enrichment Saturdays, which takes place on the first Saturday of every month. Staff will set up a tug-of-war station and select a few people from the crowd to test their physical strength against a resident wolfdog in a supervised setting.
The local group Tourism Canmore Kananaskis is highlighting the day trip as a way for people staying in the Bow Valley to see the animals in action. The sanctuary is a non-profit organization that currently houses more than 55 resident wolfdogs on 160 acres of land.
Access to the tug-of-war session is included with the cost of a standard admission ticket to the sanctuary. These activities are designed to keep the wolfdogs active while teaching the public about the natural power and behavior of the animals.
