A new IGA grocery store opened its doors in Canmore on April 16, 2026, offering residents in the Three Sisters area more convenient access to fresh produce and everyday essentials. Located at 300 Cascade Drive within The Gateway at Three Sisters development, the store officially began serving customers at 9:00 AM.
The 22,000-square-foot facility is operated by Sobeys Capital Incorporated. For many local residents, the opening marks the end of a long wait for a grocery retailer in their immediate neighbourhood. Previously, those living in the Three Sisters area had to travel to the opposite end of town to shop at the community’s only other large-format grocery stores, Save-on-Foods and Safeway.
The grocery store is part of a larger 290,000-square-foot mixed-use development by Three Sisters Mountain Village. The site, which received municipal approval in late 2021, includes various commercial and medical spaces, a gas station, and restaurant areas. The new IGA joins other businesses at the development, including a Sobeys Liquor store that opened nearby at 340 Cascade Drive last year.
The project, which was first announced in June 2024, opened ahead of its original summer 2026 projection. The addition of this retailer is expected to serve as a key destination for the area’s growing population, helping to reduce the need for residents to travel across town for basic household needs.
