Environment Canada has officially ended a snowfall warning for Canmore, Alberta, as of February 18, 2026. While the heavy snow has stopped, residents now face extremely cold temperatures and dangerous conditions on local roads and trails.

The cancellation comes after a storm on February 16 and February 17 brought between 10 and 20 centimetres of snow to the Bow Valley and Kananaskis region. According to Environment Canada, the alert was removed at 9:59 AM on Wednesday morning.

Temperatures in the community dropped to -22.4 degrees Celsius on February 18, with wind chills making it feel like -28. Local officials are warning that there is a significant risk of frostbite because of these freezing conditions.

Alberta Parks is also advising people to be careful of a hidden layer of ice under the new snow. This ice can make sidewalks, parking lots, and trails very slippery and difficult to navigate.

In the mountains, the risk of avalanches remains high at the alpine and treeline levels. Experts from Avalanche Canada indicate that the new snow and wind have created dangerous conditions for anyone heading into the backcountry.
