Residents in Carberry, Manitoba, should prepare for slippery roads and low visibility as a weather system moves through the area starting the evening of February 17, 2026. According to Environment Canada, the region can expect about 2-4 centimetres of snow and local blowing snow through the morning of February 18, 2026. High winds are expected to accompany the flurries, which may make it difficult to see while driving on open rural roads.

The Beautiful Plains School Division notes that while schools generally stay open during bad weather, individual bus routes might be cancelled if road conditions become unsafe. Parents and students are encouraged to check for specific bus updates on the morning of the expected snow. Local officials suggest that even a small amount of snow can create hazardous conditions when combined with freezing temperatures.

The Municipality of North Cypress-Langford is responsible for clearing snow in the area and will be monitoring the situation. To stay informed about snow clearing or road delays, residents can sign up for automated alerts through the Town of Carberry notification system. These alerts provide direct information to community members about municipal services during winter weather.

Drivers are encouraged to use extra caution at the intersection of Highway 1 and Highway 5, which is known as the site of the deadliest traffic accident in the history of the province. With temperatures forecasted to drop to minus 13 degrees Celsius overnight, these high-speed stretches can quickly become icy. Using extra travel time and keeping a safe distance from other vehicles is recommended for those commuting during the flurries.
