Carberry residents will soon know when their local hockey season kicks into high gear. The Carberry Minor Hockey Association has released its 2025–2026 calendar, starting with the Tournament of Champions from January 15–18, 2026, at the Carberry Plains Community Centre. A U7 home tournament follows on February 7, 2026, and the new CMHA Plainsmen Cup Golf fundraiser is set for June 2026. These events mark key opportunities for youth competition and crucial fundraising.

Teams from U7 through U15—some in partnership with neighbouring Souris—will take to the ice during the Tournament of Champions, drawing clubs from across the Southwest Hockey League. Parents are reminded that CMHA operates on a work-for-play model: volunteers are needed at the kitchen, time clock and gates for every tournament match.

According to the association’s latest bulletin, “If your child is attending Breakfast Club a parent shift in the kitchen is mandatory.” This policy is aimed at sharing the load of event staffing and keeping fees down amid rising ice costs and equipment expenses. Board members, led by President Morgan Fryer, encourage families to sign up early for volunteer spots.

With an eye on year-round fundraising, CMHA is introducing the Plainsmen Cup Golf event in June. The tournament will take place at a local course and is designed to ease winter volunteer pressure by engaging sponsors and golfers in the off-season.

Families and volunteers can find full details, including registration and shift sign-up, on the CMHA official website. Organizers say planning ahead will ensure every tournament runs smoothly and keeps Carberry’s youth hockey tradition thriving.
