Residents in Carberry, Manitoba, will vote for a new town councillor on March 17, 2026, to ensure the community has full representation on the local council.
The Town of Carberry confirmed the date following the resignation of Councillor Mike Sudak in late 2025. Sudak stepped down because his personal and work life became too busy for him to attend every meeting and perform his duties for the public.
Even though a general election is coming up in October, the town council voted to hold this earlier vote to fill the empty seat for the remainder of the term. A notice for people interested in running for the position was first posted on January 5, 2026.
Samantha VanDamme, a local nurse and healthcare worker, has already announced that she is running for the vacant seat. She has previous experience working with the Manitoba Nurses Union and local school groups.
Community members can find more details about the voting process on the Upcoming By-Election page. This vote will help the town move forward with local projects while working alongside Mayor Ray Muirhead and the existing council members.
