On February 25, 2026, the provincial government announced that the risk of spring flooding for the Town of Carman, Manitoba, is expected to be low to moderate. This forecast comes from the latest outlook issued by Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure.

Snow levels in southern Manitoba are currently lower than what is usually seen at this time of year. Additionally, the soil was relatively dry before it froze and the frost is not as deep as usual, which helps the ground absorb water as the snow melts.

The town is protected by the Carman Diversion, which was finished in 1991. This nearly 10-kilometre channel carries water from the Boyne River around the west side of the community to prevent flooding in residential areas.

While the overall risk is low, ice conditions and spring weather will play a key role in how the water flows. Localized flooding from ice jams on the Boyne River remains a possibility that requires active monitoring as the weather warms up.

The Hydrologic Forecast Centre will continue to track conditions and expects to release a more detailed report in late March. Property owners are encouraged to review their flood plans and insurance coverage ahead of the spring runoff.
