Statistics Canada has begun recruiting local residents in Carman, Manitoba, for temporary census-taking jobs for the 2026 Census. The agency posted a national staffing announcement in early January 2026.
These short-term positions pay $25.87 per hour for enumerators, whose primary responsibility is to go door to door to collect census information. A variety of supervisory and non-supervisory roles are being recruited; most fieldwork is expected between May and July 2026, while some supervisory roles and preparations will begin as early as March.
Statistics Canada says census data inform decisions about services and funding — including child care, education, health care and transportation — that affect communities. An accurate count therefore helps communities secure appropriate planning and funding for local services.
The hiring surge also offers a temporary employment option for people who might otherwise look for seasonal or local work at businesses such as Walinga Inc. or in the agricultural sector. Applicants must reside in Canada with a Canadian home address and will be required to complete a ‘reliability status’ security screening (which includes a name-based criminal record check and a credit check) as part of the hiring process.
Residents interested in applying can find details and submit an application on the official Census jobs website. Statistics Canada says new hires receive paid training and will be provided official identification while working in the community.
