In Casselman, the municipality expanded its winter skating program for the 2025–26 Christmas school break to give children and families more free winter activities. The initiative is anchored at the J.R. Brisson Complex and is supplemented by outdoor rinks — the municipality opened four outdoor rinks for the season in the region, including Casselman’s outdoor rink at Richelieu Park (46 Faucher St). A special “Rock & Skate” music-accompanied session will be held on December 23, 2025.
Comptoir Populaire Deguire sponsors the free “Rock & Skate” sessions at the J.R. Brisson Complex (758 Brébeuf St). Outdoor skating at Richelieu Park is municipally provided and free to the public. Registration generally was not required for the free sessions; residents could drop in at scheduled times. Note that municipal facilities are historically closed on December 25 and 26 and January 1.
Four outdoor rinks were opened for the season in the area, and the municipality thanked Russell Township Fire Services for assisting in preparing the rinks. Casselman’s Richelieu Park outdoor rink was reported open daily (municipal notices listed hours such as 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.); lighting and hours vary by site, so skaters should check the municipality’s rink-condition updates for current evening hours.
The expanded program aligns with Casselman’s updated Parks and Recreation Master Plan, which seeks better year-round use of facilities and to lower barriers to sport.
