The Ontario government will begin a major rehabilitation project on Highway 417 near Casselman, Ontario, in Spring 2026 to make the drive safer and smoother for local residents. The work will cover 14.0 kilometres of highway between Limoges and Casselman and will include resurfacing and bridge rehabilitation at the South Nation underpass.
According to the Ministry of Transportation (MTO), the project includes resurfacing (replacing old pavement), drainage and culvert improvements to reduce water pooling on the road, and structural rehabilitation at the South Nation underpass to address wear from heavy truck traffic.
The construction is part of the province’s broader 2025 infrastructure plan to improve rural highways that connect small towns to larger centres such as Ottawa. The MTO estimates the cost for this stretch at between $10 million and $25 million.
Drivers in the area have previously seen similar work completed further east, as CityNews Ottawa reported during earlier phases of the 417 overhaul in 2024. Motorists should check Ontario 511 for real-time traffic updates and potential lane closures once construction begins.
