The Arboretum at the University of Guelph is offering a three-week virtual workshop series starting March 17, 2026, aimed at helping gardeners build healthier soil. The online sessions are led by Robert Pavlis and run on March 17, March 24 and March 31.

Participants will learn soil basics, the role of nutrients and fertilizers, and approaches to developing healthy soil over time. The Arboretum lists the program as an online Zoom series; registrants may sign up for one, two or all three sessions.

Educator Robert Pavlis, a Master Gardener and garden writer who publishes GardenMyths.com and other resources, is the series instructor. Pavlis is known for a science-based approach to soil and gardening education; the Arboretum program description does not indicate in-person, hands-on soil testing demonstrations or microscopy for this online series.

The virtual training comes amid broader regional interest in soil health: farmers and gardeners across Southwestern Ontario, including Chatham–Kent, have been exploring soil-management practices to reduce input costs and improve resilience. The series also aligns with provincial efforts to promote soil health through OMAFRA resources and programs.

The sessions run Tuesdays, March 17, 24 and 31, 2026, 7:00–8:00 p.m. Eastern, and registration is available through The Arboretum’s workshops page at the University of Guelph. (See The Arboretum, University of Guelph for full details.)
