A 22-year-old man from Chatham, Ontario, is facing 11 charges after the Chatham-Kent Police Service concluded a two-month Intelligence Unit investigation into a series of motor vehicle thefts across the municipality. The man was arrested on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, after a wave of vehicle-related crimes that began in December 2025.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service Intelligence Unit said officers used various investigative methods, including surveillance, forensics and intelligence‑sharing, to identify and link the suspect to multiple incidents across the municipality. Local reporting by the Sydenham Current noted the investigation aimed to address a spike in property crime affecting several neighbourhoods.

The accused faces 11 charges: three counts of theft of a motor vehicle, four counts of possession of property obtained by crime, three counts of operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited, and one count of possession contrary to a prohibition order, according to the police media release and local reports. The Chatham Daily News likewise reported the charges include driving while prohibited and a possession‑contrary‑to‑a‑prohibition‑order charge.

Police said the arrest will help stop the wave of vehicle‑related crimes and improve property security for residents. Reporting by local news says the probe was sparked by a cluster of thefts in December 2025; local news also reported the accused was arrested in Sarnia and that officers executed a search warrant at a Chatham residence (these location details are reported by CKXS). The accused was transported to the South West Detention Centre and remanded into custody pending a video court appearance scheduled for February 9, 2026.
