The Stress Management and High Performance Clinic is hosting a workshop on March 2, 2026, to teach people in Ridgetown, Ontario, how to manage anxiety without using medication. This event will focus on simple physical and mental tools that students at the local campus and community members can use to stay calm during high-pressure times.
Participants will learn practical techniques like deep breathing and ways to stop worrying thoughts from taking over. While the main session is held online, students at the Ridgetown Campus can find additional support at the wellness office in Steckley Hall.
Kathy Somers, who leads the program, has spent years teaching these skills to people in rural areas, including farmers and students. According to The Western Producer, these methods are designed to help people lower physical tension and focus better on their work or studies.
The University of Guelph Student Wellness team says the workshop is part of a plan to give people quick, low-cost ways to feel better before they need professional therapy. Local staff and community members can also find registration details through the University of Guelph Wellness@Work website.
