On February 25, 2026, Hockey Alberta and the local Chestermere Lakers marked Pink Shirt Day by encouraging players, coaches, and parents to help stop bullying at the rink in Chestermere, Alberta. This effort reminds the community that building a respectful environment is a job for everyone involved in the sport.
Players are being asked to sign a personal commitment called the Player Pledge to help make hockey a safe space for everyone. This initiative comes as teams prepare for the final weeks of the season at the Chestermere Regional Recreation Centre.
The Chestermere Minor Hockey Association already requires all coaches and parents to complete a program called Respect in Sport. This training helps adults recognize and respond to issues like harassment and discrimination.
Across the country, hockey organizations are working to improve the culture of the game after more than 700 complaints of bullying and harassment were reported during the 2024–2025 season. Local leaders hope these steps will ensure the season ends with a focus on good sportsmanship and fair play.
