Firefighters from Rocky View County, Chestermere and Calgary worked together to contain a structure fire in the Cambridge area of Conrich (just north of Chestermere, Alta.) on Jan. 15, 2026. The blaze began in a home under construction and spread to nearby properties.
Two homes under construction were extensively damaged, and three additional homes sustained exterior damage. Crews from Rocky View County Fire Services, Chestermere and Calgary were dispatched at approximately 3:10 p.m. to a fire east of Range Road 285 and Cambridge Boulevard. No injuries were reported, and emergency workers evacuated residents in the immediate area safely.
According to DiscoverAirdrie and county updates, the fire was considered under control by about 3:55 p.m. The incident was one of the first major tests of the Automatic Aid Arrangement activated in early December 2025; under that agreement Chestermere crews are dispatched automatically alongside county resources to shorten response times as part of a five-month pilot running through April 2026.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by Rocky View County Fire Services and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). At the time of the incident the county was under a fire advisory (a “Winter Fire Advisory”) because of dry and windy conditions; permit burning and fireworks permits were suspended. Residents can find more information about the county’s fire response planning in the RVC Fire Services Master Plan.
